3rd place in an international competition for Vltava Philharmonic Hall, Prague, Czech Republic

20 of the most internationally renowned architectural bureaus participated in the invited architectural competition; among others, the architectural offices Foster + Partners, Atelier Jean Nouvel, David Chipperfield Architects, Snøhetta, SANAA architects and BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group.

On Tuesday, May 17, 2022, the winning solution of the international architectural competition for the construction of the new building of the Prague Philharmonic – Vltava Philharmonic Hall – was announced in Prague. In an exceptional international competition, the Slovenian architectural office Bevk Perović arhitekti won 3rd place, which is a great recognition for Slovenian architecture and at the same time a big step towards greater recognition of Slovenian architecture on a global scale. According to the architects Vasa Perović and Matija Bevk, the invitation to an architectural competition of such standard is a unique success, and the award is proof that Slovenian architects can compete with the best.

The building, awarded with the third prize, is designed as a compact volume in which the concert halls are arranged vertically. With the concept of stacking the halls one on top of the other, space is created in front of the Philharmonic for a new city square – a green public space that belongs to the city and its citizens. The Philharmonic is ‘wrapped’ in a transparent glass envelope, through which views of the city open up. At the top of the new building stands an open auditorium, which provides a unique musical experience above Prague. The Philharmonic would thus represent a new type of vertically organized urban public infrastructure, which could become a symbol of the development of the Czech capital.

1st place in an open competition for New Courthouse in Ljubljana, Slovenia

The project is characterized by an innovative approach in the typology of the court building. The public part of the court building with the courtrooms is located in the northern part of the building and forms a vertical accent – the ‘court tower’ – which extends from the ground floor all the way to the ninth floor, while the rest of the building are the judge’s offices, which are placed right next to the court tower. This achieves two things: the northern ‘tower’ becomes the main element of the design, it is the first and most visible element, the representation of the judicial work and the nominal transparency of the judiciary as an institution. At the same time the direct connections of the judges to the courtrooms and easy and efficient communication routes for all visitors to the public part are created.
